Kampmann

Numismatist & Historian

CEO, Company Founder and Jack of All Trades

When Ursula Kampmann decided to write her doctoral thesis on the Roman provincial Homonoia coins of Pergamon, she always thought that she’d end up working as a cleaner with a doctorate. She never imagined that she’d be able to earn money through her passion for history and numismatics. After many years of working in the coin trade, she took the leap into self-employment and became a numismatic journalist. She had always enjoyed writing, after all. And what’s more, her high-quality texts, situated at the intersection between trade and research, had already attracted her first potential client: the legendary Leu Numismatik AG from Zurich.

As of July 2022, that was exactly 30 years ago. Since then, Ursula Kampmann has written thousands of texts that have been translated into over 20 languages, founded three companies, expanded her team and moulded her numismatic team into a reliable and loyal partner for more than 30 clients both in Germany and abroad. Today, her expertise ranges from the very first coins right up to contemporary coinage. She is renowned in Germany and beyond for her ability to communicate specialist numismatic know-how in a manner that is straightforward and easy for collectors to understand. In addition, she still conducts her own research, specifically on the era around 1600 and the history of the coin trade. Last but not least, she is the leading numismatist in the field of contemporary coin technology.

She loves the variety of her job, the challenge of constant new projects and, of course, the opportunity to give her creativity free rein. And she really does: every month, she’ll have about 20 new ideas, of which 3 are thrown out, 15 are quickly dismissed and one ends up financing all the others.

Ursula Kampmann is highly sensitive to the needs of her clients. She’ll often know how a client can reach their goal before they do – sometimes without them even telling her what it is! She pursues her projects relentlessly and she can assert herself when she needs to. She knows how to motivate and inspire people. Her network covers the entire world. Her connections are never just professional. For her, numismatics is about building bridges and forging friendships – across every continent.
