Dr.
Björn
Schöpe
Historian
Editor of CoinsWeekly, Ursula Kampmann’s Second-in-Command
Björn Schöpe studied Archaeology, Ancient History and Latin Philology in Freiburg and Bologna. It was during his time studying abroad in Italy, if not earlier, that he became a full-fledged Italophile. When he’s not in Tuscany for the summer holidays, he remains loyal to the country’s cuisine from afar with a good espresso or home-made arancini.
While studying for his doctorate in Ancient History, which focussed specifically on the Roman imperial court in Severan times, Björn Schöpe was already working as a columnist for the German magazine Damals. With his interest in publishing, numismatic know-how and distinct talent for IT-related tasks, he became Ursula Kampmann’s first permanent colleague in 2011. His main areas of responsibility are graphics and video work, as well as the company’s IT infrastructure. But his tasks also include writing articles, conducting research and managing the CoinsWeekly newsletter. Many aspects of the company would be worse without him, and some things wouldn’t happen at all.
Outside working hours, you’ll often find me in the dojo. This space, where I practise the Japanese sword-based martial art of Iaido, is my refuge. It’s where I recover from the working day, which can get quite hectic sometimes, and recharge my batteries.
